Tiffanie Britt, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

When you grow up spending a lot of time on a farm, you acquire plenty of firsthand experience dealing with animals. Dr. Tiffanie Britt spent several summers working on her grandparent’s farm tending to a variety of farm animals. Although she was young, she had already made up her mind that she wanted to always be around furry, lovable creatures in some capacity. Today, as a veterinarian, Dr. Tiffanie has the opportunity to do precisely that!

Her first experience in the veterinary world came when she worked in the kennel at Lawrenceville Animal Care. This opened her eyes to the reality of the profession, and she found out how much work and time is put into taking care of animals. But she would not be deterred and was determined to pursue a career in the field. She would major in Biology/pre-vet in college, and then go on to earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at University of Georgia. While studying, she continued to gain experience by working in various animal hospitals.

When it comes to picking favorite aspects of her job, Dr. Tiffanie can’t pick only one. She enjoys the variety of tasks that vacillate between surgery and medicine, and she relishes the opportunity to continuously learn and hone her skills. Ultimately, she finds surgery to be the most humbling yet rewarding area of her profession, simply because of the unique challenges that it comes with.

Dr. Tiffanie is married and has four children, along with two dogs, a rabbit and a cat. You can catch her camped out in front of her TV on weekends, loudly cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs college football team. Her siblings live nearby, so she’s able to spend time with them. And to make life come full circle from her childhood, she has dreams of one day opening her own small farm!

Dr. Derek Duval

VMD, DACVIM

Dr. Duval completed his undergraduate and veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. Derek and his wife, Julie Duval VMD DACVS, moved to Georgia where Derek did his internship at the University of Georgia while Julie completed her residency in surgery. After his internship, Derek stayed on faculty at UGA and ran the Outpatient Medicine service for two years.

The Duval’s then returned to Philadelphia where Dr. Derek Duval completed his small animal internal medicine residency at Penn. During his residency, Derek was responsible for setting up and starting the outpatient endoscopy service at Penn and completed research and publications on immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA). Dr. Duval completed his board certification in small animal internal medicine in 1997 and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM). He has served the ACVIM in a variety of roles including credentialing, test preparation and rating, and other volunteer services.

Since leaving academia, the Duval’s have been practicing high-quality specialty medicine and surgery in the Southeast, including most of the last 20 years practicing in Atlanta. Dr. Duval is an accomplished endoscopist (both rigid and flexible endoscopy), ultrasonographer, and diagnostician and enjoys all aspects of internal medicine and endoscopy. Dr. Duval has a special interest in interventional endoscopy and radiology. He has helped pioneer procedures such as tracheal and urethral stenting and balloon dilation treatment for esophageal strictures. Dr. Duval has lectured extensively locally and nationally on a variety of topics in internal medicine.

The Duval’s live in Atlanta with their dogs Maisie (Sheltie) and Mr. Darcy (Schipperke), assorted frogs, and a gecko. They have two adult children who graduated from Emory, Georgia Tech, and UGA (grad school) who have inherited the love for animals, but not for veterinary medicine. When not practicing veterinary medicine, Derek is an avid home brewer, martial artist, and scuba diver and enjoys sharing music, travel, and outdoor activities with Julie and their family.

Dr. Julie Duval

VMD, DACVS

After growing up in Kentucky and Texas, Dr. Duval received a bachelor of science degree from Duke University, then graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and stayed on for a year to complete a rotating internship. She was happy to be able to come back to the South for her surgery residency at the University of Georgia and then accepted a position as a clinical surgery instructor at the University of Pennsylvania, where Dr. Duval was involved with the training of students, interns, and residents.

Following positions in two private referral practice hospitals in Columbia, SC, and St. Louis, MO, she and her husband moved to Atlanta in 2000 where they were two of the original specialists at one of the largest veterinary specialty practices in the southeast. Over 18 years of practice in Atlanta, Dr. Duval was able to gradually adjust her caseload to focus on soft tissue surgery. She also was very active in organizing and participating in the continuing education program at that practice. While enjoying all aspects of soft tissue and surgery, Dr. Duval has a special interest in perineal urethrostomy and oncologic surgery. She volunteers with the AVMA as a veterinary school accreditation site visitor.

Dr Julie Duval has been married to MOVES internist Derek Duval since 1990, and they have two adult children who have grown up to be scientists themselves. She loves reading, watching college football and basketball (especially the Duke Blue Devils), hiking, and traveling. She and her husband have two dogs, a Sheltie and a Schipperke, who enjoy going on hikes with them.
